Medics arrive to take blood samples of residents of Spanish Garden residential complex after a COVID-19 positive case was detected in an apartment, in Guwahati

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported a total of 35 new imported coronavirus cases yesterday (3 Jan). This is the highest number of imported cases since the lifting of cirtuit breaker on 1 Jun 2020. There were no new community cases and none from workers’ dormitories.

The 35 have already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. Amongst them, 32 are asymptomatic. The new cases take Singapore’s total of confirmed infections to 58,697.

Of the 35 individuals with confirmed infections, one is a Singaporean, five are permanent residents, 10 are dependant’s pass holders, and one is a long term visit pass holder. There are also 12 work permit holders, four work pass holders and two short-term visit pass holders.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community increased from one case in the week before last to 10 cases last week. The number of unlinked cases in the community also increased from one case in the week before last to four last week.

Among the 35 imported cases, almost half (16) travelled from India. The 4 cases who reportedly travelled from UAE and Maldives to Singapore were Indian nationals.

MOH said that 11 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

There are currently 64 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. One is in critical condition in the intensive care unit with 117 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. 29 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
