A 16-year-old girl was arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) stated in a press release on Sunday (30 December).

The police said that it was alerted to a case of fire at the void deck of Blk 34 Circuit Road on 29 December 2018 at about 3.30 am.

The girl set fire to a mattress at the void deck. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the fire.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the youth and arrested her at the vicinity of Blk 65 Circuit Road on the same day.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the youth is believed to be involved in other similar cases of mischief by fire.

The police stated that the girl is believed to have set fire to a dustbin at the void deck of Block 36 and a broom on the 14th floor of the same block.

Anyone convicted for mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for an imprisonment term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
