Netizens were all praise for the way SMRT staff handled the situation of a woman climbing down onto the tracks at Yio Chu Kang station on Monday.
Around 1.15pm, SMRT announced a halt of train services between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun stations in both directions when the incident occurred.
Commuters who saw the women climb over the half-height platform screen door and onto the track activated the emergency stop plunger, alerting the staff on site who responded immediately.
Both the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force were activated as well.
According to a statement by SMRT on its Facebook post, the police escorted the women out of the track at about 2.15pm. She was uninjured.
The next day, a netizen shared several images on Facebook of what looks like the incident from the day before. One image shows the woman standing right at the edge of the tracks, leaning over the rails, while the other two show what appears to be two SMRT staff speaking to the woman. The man is seen with his hand around the woman’s shoulders as he spoke to her.
The netizen praised the man in the photo as a “hero behind the scene”.
The post has garnered over 360 comments so far and has been shared over 5,000 times.
A majority of the comments were netizens praising the SMRT staff for a job well done and for saving the woman’s life.
