Train services between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun MRT stations on the North-South Line were halted in both directions on Monday afternoon (2 Aug) at around 1.55pm after a female commuter at Yio Chu Kang station had climbed onto the tracks.

According to SMRT in a statement, the female commuter climbed over the half-height platform screen door and got onto the track.

Commuters on the platform proceeded to activate the Emergency Stop Plunger, and SMRT staff immediately responded on site.

Traction power was subsequently turned off, and the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were immediately activated.

Free bus services between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun stations were made available during that period.

At about 2.10pm, the police escorted the person out of the track, said SMRT, adding that “she was uninjured”.

Train services resumed at about 2.20pm.

SMRT is assisting the police in their investigations.

They added that she was also arrested for criminal trespass.

Further investigations are ongoing.
