On Monday (23 November), Senior Minister of State in the Ministry for Sustainability and the Environment and Ministry for Transport Amy Khor launched the opening of the temporary bus stop 40331 at Blk 460D Bt Batok West Ave 9.

Sharing images of the event on her Facebook page, Dr Khor can be seen cutting a ribbon at the front of the temporary bus stop.

She said in her post, “Thanks to the hard work of our grassroots and the feedback from our residents, we now have this new additional bus stop. In order for our residents to benefit early, we have managed to get LTA to expedite the work.”

In an earlier post, Dr Khor explained that the bus stop was temporary as a response to residents who asked that they be able to more conveniently access the 160M bus service as soon as possible.

“A permanent bus shelter would take a longer time to complete as it will among others need to get various clearances etc from the agencies before construction work can start,” she explained.

“This new temporary bus stop would mean a shorter walking distance for residents at West Quarry and West Valley to take bus service 160M.”

This isn’t the only small-time ceremonial event Dr Khor graced recently.

Earlier in November, she launched the Hong Kah North Go Green movement 2020 which is a digital recycling competition using the Step Up Sustainability App.

The launch involved Dr Khor cutting a ribbon that was tied around a recycling bin, a photo of which was shared on her Facebook page.

Dr Khor previously served as the Mayor of South West District from 12 August 2004 to 26 May 2014. She has since been promoted to the Senior Minister of State post.

Dr Khor now earns at least S$935,000 as a Senior Minister of State.

This figure is derived from a 2017 report by the Committee to Review Salaries of the President, Prime Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Political Appointment Holders and Members of Parliament.

Given inflation over the past few years, that figure might be higher in 2020 than it was in 2017.

On top of that, she is also earning about S$192,000 a year as an MP. Again, this is a figure from 2017 and does not account for inflation over the past few years.

It is astonishing that someone who is paid so much in her senior roles as a government official is spending a lot of her time at these types of minor opening events.
