the following is a media release by TOC:

There have been many mishaps on the trains. Has SMRT learnt from these experiences? Was there any business recovery plan which all staffs of the public transport operators are trained in, to know what to do in an emergency like the one which happened on 15 December? Is the root cause of problem a profit driven culture? Overcrowded trains are good for profits. Less frequent maintenance is good for profits. Who should be accountable? It is the health and safety of the commuters that we are talking about. Was regulatory oversight and assumptions that ‘things will be fine as long we have trusted aides to run the show’ the reasons for these serious lapses? These are all questions we the commuters have. Someone has to give up their seat.
