Attempt to smuggle 1,000 e-vaporisers and 24,400 e-vaporiser refill pods foiled by ICA
An attempt to smuggle in e-vaporisers and e-vaporiser refill pods on 16 October was foiled by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (20 Oct), the ICA said that its officers at Changi Airfreight Centre seized a total of 1,000 e-vaporisers and 24,400 e-vaporiser refill pods from cargo consignments declared as “bags and clothes” and “clothes and toys”.
The authority added that the smuggling attempt was uncovered by its eagle-eyed officers who noticed anomalies in the x-ray images of the consignments.
The case was then referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigations.
The ICA asserted that this method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill-intent to smuggle security items into Singapore, adding that it will continue to conduct security checks on passengers, goods, and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security.
