After reports of travellers crossing the border on foot with luggage in toll, one shuttle bus has been arranged for those without private vehicles.

The bus service, provided by the Johor Public Transport Corporation, transports travellers between the Johor Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex located at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), and an area near the Singapore border at Woodlands.

After essential business and official travel between Singapore and Malaysia resumed on Monday (17 Aug) under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA), people without possession of a private vehicle were seen crossing the 1km-long Causeway by foot.

This has prompted Mohd Solihan Badri, chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure Committee, to submit a request for bus services

The shuttle bus will ferry passengers between each stop point. After which they will alight and walk the remaining way on foot.

The bus seats 22 passengers each ride.

The China Press reported that the bus service will run between 7am and 7pm, as Mr Solihan said that the CIQ complex at BSI is only operational during that time.

However, the frequency of the shuttle bus is undetermined.

Mr Solihan stated that more arrangements will be made after further monitoring of the cross-border travel.

(Library Consultative Panel)…
