Late on Thursday (2 July) night, the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) was ordered by the West Coast Town Council to take down about 50 of the party’s campaign posters.
In a Facebook post, the party’s West Coast GRC team said that the order was “puzzling” because People’s Action Party posters were “left untouched”.
Addressing the incident on Friday morning, Dr Tan Cheng Bock—party Secretary-General and candidate for West Coast GRC—said in an Instagram video that the party was “very upset and very sad” about the posters being taken down.
He said, “I would like to share with you that many of my PSP posters were taken down and we are very upset and very sad. But I hope the social media friends of mine can help me to spread this message and continue to support me.”
The caption which accompanied the video also added, “Our PSP posters were asked to be taken down but we are not going to blame anyone. Online friends please help us spread the word on social media.”
In an earlier update on the original Facebook post, PSP said that the party is in touch with the Elections Department and “will provide a time line of events shortly”.
