During the circuit breaker (CB) period where social gatherings were prohibited, people were caught flouting the safe distancing measures as they gathered at Robertson Quay.
Two men were charged in court earlier today (16 June) for meeting each other at Robertson Quay during CB. According to CNA, they were charged with one count of breaching Regulation 6 of the COVID-19 regulations and they will be returning to court on 7 July.
These two offenders are Alfred Jon Veloso Waring, 34, and Olagunju Daniel Olalekan Olasunkanmi, 30, and both of them are British citizens. They were accused of meeting each other and other people from different households to chat and drink near Limoncello restaurant on 16 May.
It was revealed by their lawyer, Shiever, that both of them are Singapore permanent residents.
Apart from these two offenders, seven other people were also charged in court on 2 June for breaking the same regulation by meeting up at Robertson Quay on 16 May.
These six people included six men and one woman, four of them are of British nationals, two Americans and one Austrian.
Each accused who is charged for flouting of COVID-19 regulations may be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both. However, it had not been revealed what exact charges were placed on these offenders at Robertson Quay.
All of these people who flouted the CB measures visited Robertson Quay for non-essential purposes, as they were seen enjoying each other’s companies and having drinks in public. This story was shared by Facebook user Lectress Pat on 16 May, criticizing the hypocrisy when local Singaporeans at HDB flats were monitored and apprehended, as some others were “tolerated in certain Sovereign zones”.
Netizens were also enraged upon discovering the hypocrisy during CB, how the regulations were strict and efficient when it came to locals, while sight like this at Robertson Quay was “allowed”.
