The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a travel advisory to all Singaporeans to defer any non-essential travel to Hong Kong in light of protests that have roiled the city which shows no signs of slowing down.
The advisory publish on their website on 16 August said that the large-scale protests that have taken places since June 2019 have become “increasingly unpredictable” and that protests can happen with little or no notice and turn violent.
Highlighting the recent protests which affected the Hong Kong International Airport which resulted in the cancellation of many flights in an out of the city on 12 and 13 August leaving travellers stranded, the Ministry advised Singaporeans to avoid travelling to Hong Kong given current developments.
For those already in Hong Kong, the MFA advises taking all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
The advisory said, “You are advised to stay vigilant, monitor developments through the local news, and heed the instructions of the local authorities.”
MFA refers travellers to the Hong Kong Police Force’s social media accounts on Facebook (fb.com/hongkongpoliceforce) and Twitter (@hkpoliceforce) updates on the protests and to www.td.gov.hk/en/special_news/spnews.htm for information on traffic arrangements.
The advisory adds, “You should avoid protests and large public gatherings, and stay in touch with your family and friends so that they know you are safe.”
Singaporeans in Hong Kong are also encouraged to register with the MFA online at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ so that they can be contacted if necessary.

印尼新内阁名单出炉 委任对手普拉博沃为国防部长

印尼总统佐科(Joko Widodo),今日公布其第二任期新内阁阵容。其中他委任前反对党领袖、此前成为他总统选举竞争对手的普拉博沃,成为国防部长,备受瞩目。 佐科威当天在宣布普拉博沃的新任务时说:“我认为我不需要向他讲解他的工作。他比我懂得更多。” 不过,普拉博沃被指在任职军官期间曾侵犯人权,而今却获延揽出任防长一职,相信将再引发争议。 普拉博沃(Prabowo Subianto),有显赫政治和家庭背景,也是前印尼独裁者苏哈托的女婿,在后者统治期间担任特种部队司令。 他被指控涉及多项侵犯人权行为,包括1998年数名亲民主活跃分子遭绑架及失踪事件。当时的事件导致大规模街头示威,最后推翻苏哈多政权。普拉博沃领导的陆军战略部队及其嫡系特种部队,也被指参与和策划1998年印尼排华暴动。不过,普拉博沃不曾因有关指控受到提控。 今年5月,印尼选举委员会公布选举结果,不过普拉博沃拒绝接受结果,其支持者也发起大规模抗议,超过万人参与。然而有人士蓄意挑衅和犯罪行为,雅加达一度陷入骚乱,惟普拉博沃与暴民保持距离。 至于佐科内阁的其他38位部长中,曾经出任世界银行董事经理的丝丽.穆耳雅妮继续出任财政部长,而外交部长蕾特诺也留任。 早前盛传将入阁的印尼电召魔多车GOJEK创办人纳迪姆,也证实出任教育及文化部长。他此前已宣布辞去市值100亿美元公司的总裁职务。 纳迪姆毕业于美国布朗大学和哈佛商学院,相信佐科有意倚重他推动印尼经济和技术的发展。

遭五名巴士司机起诉 新捷运将纠纷交工业仲裁庭裁决

上月,五名巴士司机分别状告本地巴士业者新捷运(SBS Transit),指责后者违反加班工酬条款,支付不足工酬。 据了解,新捷运已把上述薪资诉讼申请转移到工业仲裁庭(IAC)审理。此前诉方将诉状提呈推事庭聆讯。 在今日发布的声明中,该公司声称“以作为守法和负责任雇主自豪”,和雇员以及国家交通工友联合会(NTWU)都有牢固的劳资关系,并已依循法律义务、相关合约规章行事。 新捷运称,有鉴于上诉巴士司机提出的诉讼,也牵涉该公司与NTWU的共同协议,故此依法、为了新捷运全体巴士车长利益、与NTWU的良好关系,新捷运决定把此纠纷交由工业仲裁庭作裁决。 巴士司机代表律师楼“感惊讶” Carson律师楼律师拉维(M RAVI),上月代表五位巴士司机提呈传讯令状。该律师楼对新捷运把诉讼申请转交工业仲裁庭的举措,“感到惊讶”。 “为尊重法治和法院权限,理应通过法院程序,(如有需要)进行调解”。该律师楼也表示,其客户也是基于所有与雇主和工会的内部协商程序用尽后,才不得已向法院提出诉讼。 这些司机已在该公司任职三至10年不等。诉状中提及其中四名司机,曾向推事庭提呈类似的诉讼。尽管在今年7月和八日,出席了两次与NTWU和康福德高的会谈,不过他们认为控诉和报告未受到重视。 Carson律师楼律师拉维则认为,这五位巴士司机的诉讼具有显著意义,乃是涉及新加坡公交业者的首宗工资争议个案。不仅会影响目前的这五人,还可能对其他新捷运忠于和勤奋工作多年的巴士车长带来影响。 他认为,诉讼中有关可能违反人力部规定的工酬,休假日的争议可能违反《雇佣法》,都理应仔细审视。…
