A total of 1,169 packets of chewing tobacco concealed in the motorcycle’s carrier box, the raincoat bag and haversack, and inside of shoes.

In a Facebook post on Friday (8 February), Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that its officers at Woodlands Checkpoint referred a 50-year-old male Malaysian motorcyclist for further checks on Thursday at about 4.45 am.

True to officers’ suspicion, they found a total of 1,169 packets of chewing tobacco.

The case was then referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

“Our borders are our first line of defence in safeguarding Singapore’s security,” ICA said.

It also stressed that the authority will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands.
