Earlier today (3 August), the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) released a statement announcing that some places of worship will be allowed to increase the limit for congregational and other worship services from 50 to 100 along with the plan resume religious activities gradually.
The increase of limit will be piloted by MCCY from 7 August onwards.
A total of 12 religious organisations (RO) will be allowed to accommodate up to 100 persons at any one time for congregational and other worship services. This plan was said to be carried out with the necessary precautions to safeguard public health.
The 12 organisations that will be piloted are Masjid Assyafaah (North), Masjid Mujahidin (South), Masjid Al-Istighfar (East), Masjid Al-Iman (West), Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, St Andrew’s Cathedral, Jurong Christian Church, Amazing Grace Presbyterian Church, Sengkang Methodist Church, Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, and Central Sikh Temple.
In nine of these 12 sites, the pilot will include the implementation of two zones of up to 50 persons each for congregational and other worship services.
According to the statement, MCCY identified these ROs after consulting religious leaders who are also members of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Racial and Religious Harmony.
“MCCY has consulted religious leaders, who are also members of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Racial and Religious Harmony, to identify the ROs for the pilot. The pilot sites reflect the diversity of religious practices and worship settings in Singapore. The participating ROs must have first safely conducted congregational and other worship services for up to 50 persons under the guidelines for Phase Two.”
