In a Facebook post on Thursday (16 January), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that its officers noticed the driver behaving suspiciously at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The lorry was then directed for further checks and the duty-unpaid cigarettes were found hidden behind the driver’s seat, covered by a black cloth.

The man was subsequently referred to Singapore Customs for further investigations.

“This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.” said the authority.
