Two men, aged 28 and 49, and a 26-years old woman were arrested by the police at the transit area of Changi airport for misusing their boarding passes on 15 and 17 July 2018.

This was revealed in a Facebook post on Wednesday (18 July) by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on its fanpage, stating that investigations revealed that the 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman had entered the transit area to claim Goods and Services Tax refund on 15 July 2018.

It added that separately, the 49-year-old man had entered the transit area to send his friend off on 17 July 2018.

“All of them had no intention to depart Singapore,” the police stressed.

According to the authority, since January 2018, the Police have arrested 19 persons for the misuse of boarding passes.

The Police remind all passengers that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places and passengers who enter the transit areas with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of travelling to their next destinations.

Those who misuse their boarding pass to enter into the transit areas, with no intention to proceed to their next destinations, are liable for an offence under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act.

The offender may be prosecuted in Court and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 2 years or to both.
