SINGAPORE — A family tragedy occurred in Woodlands, where a father is suspected of accidentally running over and killing his two-year-old daughter while reversing his van.

The fatal accident happened around 2:45 pm on Monday (13 March) in a car park at Block 326 Woodlands Street 32.

According to LianheZaobao, a family of four had just finished their meal at a coffee shop on the ground floor of the same block before the father went to get their car.

As the father was reversing out of the parking spot, the two-year-old girl fell out of her stroller and onto the road, and he accidentally ran over her with his van.

The police were alerted to the accident and arrived at the scene, and members of the public helped to shield the injured victims with umbrellas.

Facebook page SG Road Vigilante mentioned in the post that the mother and son suffered minor injuries, but the toddler was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene.

The mother was believed to be pushing the stroller out from the carpark lot. Then a loud bang was heard, according to foreign workers who rushed forward to help.

The driver was seen carrying the toddler, and the mother was screaming and crying in despair. An ambulance was called immediately after the accident.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested for careless driving, causing death. Investigations are ongoing.
