SELANGOR, MALAYSIA —  A 28-year-old cook died from an explosion in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya after a package left on his car exploded.

According to statement released by Mohamad Farouk Eshak, Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner, the package was believed to have exploded when the victim touched it.

On Thursday (29 Dec) 8:55pm, police received an emergency call from public regarding a loud sound of an explosion at the incident scene.

Police learned that the victim found a package that was placed on his Toyota Corolla Altis’s bonnet.

“The explosion was believed to occur when the victim held the package.”

Mohamad Farouk added that the explosion left the victim with serious injuries all over his body and hands.

“The victim was then rushed to Ampang Hospital by members of the public. However, he was pronounced dead at 9.45pm while receiving treatment,” he said.

Police also found some objects believed to be part of the explosive near the crime scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

One of the video shared on Facebook shows firefighters at the scene inspecting the impact of the bomb on the car’s bonnet.
