Progress Singapore Party (PSP) posters for the constituency of Chua Chu Kang were torn down on the night of Nomination Day (30 June). A police report has been filed.

In a Facebook post today (1 July) commenting on the incident, party secretary general Dr Tan Cheng Bock said, “In the heat of campaigning, our emotions can get carried away. But this is only Day 1 and we still have a long way to go. Let’s remember to keep cool heads.”

Dr Tan noted that campaigning has “begun in earnest” since candidates were announced yesterday as supporters for all parties started to put up posters and publicity materials islandwide. However, some of PSP’s posters didn’t make it through the night.

Dr Tan said, “Last night, my team members informed me that regrettably, someone had torn down our PSP posters for the constituency of Chua Chu Kang. A police report has been made.”

The post also included several photos of the torn down posters. In one image, a PAP poster can be seen still mounted on the lamppost while the PSP poster was on the ground in tatters.

He added, “The team in Chua Chu Kang, consisting of Francis Yuen, Tan Meng Wah, Abdul Rahman and Shaun Choo are not deterred. They continue to strive to connect with residents and share the PSP message.”

Dr Tan went on to thank PSP supporters and volunteers for their efforts during this time. He also urged people to stay cool and respectful, saying, “Let’s also remember to always be calm, polite and respectful, despite a difference of opinion.
