Bright Vision Hospital (BVH) transferred around 110 patients to neighbouring community hospitals in order to make room for stable COVID-19 patients who still require medical care.
A spokesman for BVH told The Straits Times on Wed (15 Apr) that the patients were transferred to Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital and Sengkang Community Hospital, with joint effort from the Ministry of Health (MOH) as well as care providers and patients themselves.
“This is to support the nation’s need to maximise the efficient use of hospital resources and allow our public healthcare system to better prepare and cope with a potential surge in new cases,” said Margaret Lee, chief executive of SingHealth Community Hospitals, which manages BVH.
BVH is expected to receive around 200 COVID-19 patients once it is fully operational, and will only be taking in patients with the virus.
St Andrew’s Community Hospital (SACH) in Simei, another community hospital admitting COVID-19 patients, will be able to care for up to 60 of these patients, ST reported.
A spokesman for SACH told ST that it started admitting COVID-19 patients on 5 Apr and has designated two of its wards at its integrated building with Changi General Hospital (CGH) for the patients, following a request from CGH and MOH.
Patients originally in the aforementioned wards were then transferred to SACH’s main building.
1,316 patients who are clinically stable but test positive with the virus are being isolated and cared for at community facilities, according to MOH on Tue.
Community isolation facilities include those such as D’Resort NTUC in Pasir Ris, and more recently, Singapore Expo.
The multi-agency task force on COVID-19 said that around 450 patients recovering from the virus are being housed in two halls at Singapore Expo, taking up almost half of their current capacity.
Four other halls at the building will open progressively, ST noted.
