The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) is all set to organise its pre-election rally this Saturday (19 October) at Hong Lim Park, happening from 4pm to 8pm.
The event, called “Shake It Up!”, will have an array exciting activities which include live entertainment, speeches as well as a spectacular light display. This free event is opened to the public and people are encouraged to attend it wearing red.
As for the live entertainment that will be happening on that day, there will be a number of renowned local artistes who will be gracing the stage.
The first is Peter Diaz, who was once the lead guitarist and singer of late 60s-70s local band called “The October Cherries”. Some of the band’s achievements include signing a contact with Decibel Music of Belgium to write and record under the Synonym of “David Scott”, as well as recorded and produced six singles distributed by EMI Records.
Mr Diaz, a Singaporean Eurasian of Spanish descent, had also performed with Jerry Lee Lewis as a bass player in Hamburg, Germany, and wrote a song for the SDP.
The 70-year-old man, who is part of the Pioneer Generation, is young at heart and full of energy and enthusiasm. He would love to show Singapore and the world that a Pioneer Generation person can still write and perform great music for every generation to enjoy.

Besides Mr Diaz, local rock band Thambi K Seaow (TSK) will also be performing at this Saturday’s event. Famously known to play on stage with sarongs and write songs that ease the tension while bringing out the humour of racial stereotypes, the members of the rock band sing in Hokkien, Tamil, English and Malay.
In 2009, they were featured on CNN Asia as 25 most influential people in Singapore and since their comeback, TKS pledges to bring more fun and identity to the local rock scene.
The band consists of Shyam Raj on Vocals / Guitars, Tharenii M on Lead Guitars, Rory Barker on Bass along with Moshi standing in for drums. With a Rock n Roll album called “Your Mother” on Spotify, iTunes and Tidal, TKS is not your typical rock band. Besides producing their own music, they also do comedy video skits of their own, which is found on their social media channels to add more laughter and creativity to their unique flavour.

Another performance that’s highly-anticipated in the event is by SDP’s own band, which was formed specially for this pre-election rally. The band is being led by the Party’s Organising Secretary and CEC member, Jufri Salim. Started off as a singer and songwriter, Mr Jufri has been in the music industry for over 10 years. His wife, Surayah Akbar, also an SDP, is a music publisher and producer and was once part of the Javanese Symphonic Metal band, Kraton.
Mr Jufri selected a few trusted musician friends of his, who are also no stranger to the music scene, to do this one-off project. Some of the members of the band include Shafiq Khamis and Fuzz from the rock band Klutz, as well as drummer Remi from the band All About Bob.
Apart from these bands, attendees can also expect to see Buddies Birdies Kakis (B.B.K) at the event. Established in January 2016 by a group of parrots enthusiasts who have similar passion of free flying their parrots, B.B.K wants to create and share better awareness for everyone on keeping such pets as a hobby. As such, the group decided to expose themselves and their parrots to the community by being involved in various charity event and outdoor events organised by multiple organisation, like this Saturday’s pre-election rally.
B.B.K is driven with a focus on providing specialised parrots interaction, free flying, photo booth services for birthday party, wedding and corporate events.
