A consumer got a rude shock when he found out that an item at one of NTUC FairPrice stores were wrongly tagged.

Ho Chee Yi wrote to TOC to highlight this issue and said that he bought a packet of tomatoes which was supposed to cost S$1.29. However, the label on the packet showed China Fragrant Pear and the cost of it was more than double the amount at S$2.78.

“Please check your bill when you purchase from NTUC FairPrice. Item(s) may be wrongly tagged..Tomato and pear are completely different and between S$1.29 and S$2.78, it is more than a 100%,” he warned.

He also added that if a consumer checks their bill right after purchase and notify the cashier of an error, then they will be refunded for the price difference once it is verified by the supermarket staff.

It is not clear which NTUC FairPrice outlet this incident took place.

Responding to this issue, a NTUC FairPrice spokesperson said, “Ensuring product integrity, which includes labelling is of paramount importance. We treat this matter very seriously and invite the netizen to contact us directly at our Customer Relations Hotline at 6552 2722 or at [email protected] to assist our investigation. We have since advised all 140 over stores island-wide to check on the product in question.”

The spokesperson added, “To safeguard the interests of our customers we also have in place a policy where we will honour a full refund or exchange for products that have been inaccurately labelled”.
