Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had said at the National Day Rally 2013 that “every school is a good school”.

However, a look at the statistics would cast doubt at what PM Lee had said.

Do you know that:

•  The Singapore government spends the least government expenditure on education, as compared to the other high-income countries?

•  Also, do you know that Singapore has the lowest progression to secondary education?

•  Do you also know that Singaporeans pay the highest university tuition fees among the high income countries and our students receive one of the lowest proportion of scholarships, as compared to the high-income countries?

Indeed, Vice-Principal of Jurong West Secondary School had also asked, “How many of our leaders and top officers who say that every school is a good school put their children in ordinary schools near their home? (Only) until they actually do so are parents going to buy (it).”

Thus is the education system unequal and does it result in unequal outcomes for our children? For the PMETs who have undergone tertiary education in Singapore, why do they face unemployment and feel insecure about their job losses?

As such, Empowering Singaporeans will be organising a workshop to discuss the education Singapore in detail. At the workshop, we will provide you with further statistics and facts about the education system and encourage you to join in the discussion to brainstorm solutions on moving Singapore forward.

To find out more about the workshop and how you can join us there, you can visit our event page at:

Singapore needs to move towards a more education system where all our students will truly be valued and receive the best education possible to allow them to compete effectively in the knowledge economy.

We look forward to your attendance with us at the workshop.
