A pedestrian was hit by a SBS Transit bus along Balestier Road towards Thompson Road on Saturday (15 October).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to the incident at 2.53 pm. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and a 39-year-old woman was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

A policeman said that the woman was still conscious when she was conveyed to the hospital and that the investigations on the accident are still ongoing.

A video was posted online, showing that the woman and a man were crossing the road without looking to their right where the vehicles were coming from.

The woman, who was in front of the man was hit by the bus, and the man rushed to her when she got hit.

Some netizens showed sympathy, while some wrote that the woman’s reckless behaviour led to this kind of accident.

Dave Chong wrote, “Look at the way she crossed the road. As if the world stop right in front of her while she is walking by. Sorry your lowness, you need to walk with your eyes open.”

Jaxon Ji wrote, “There are some mean comments. But understand this. Every time a Jay Walker do this in front of my car, my heart skip a beat. Sometime you horn to alert them, they still stare at you. Pity the bus driver.”

Rudy RR wrote, “Some pedestrians simply assume that traffic is stopped for them when there’s a jam. If there’s a clear lane, vehicles will be moving faster. And even if it’s a jam, motorcycles will still lane split. Don’t be careless when crossing the road. Always look towards the direction where the traffic is coming from! Not anywhere else.
How is that woman? Did she make it through?”

Arasu Raj wrote, “Every error teaches the others to be more aware.. pity in fact for the life that may be lost… or still hanging for its dear life… just leaving a soul in distress in prayers…
Dear pedestrians always a humble reminder.. be careful when crossing busy roads…do use the crossings provided.. or lookout better… a sincere sad incident indeed.”
