Blogger Roy Ngerng has reached his target of collecting $70,000 to cover his legal fess in his legal dispute with Prime Minister Lee Hisen Loong.
PM Lee has earlier accused him of libel and have demanded that he pay damages. An earlier off by Ngerng for $5,000 in damages has been rejected by PM Lee, following an apology that PM Lee’s lawyer has opined as insincere.
The total amount was raised after four days of crowd-sourcing for funds.
Writing on his blog, Ngnerng said, “I would like to thank everyone for the support and for the unity that we have shown. I had managed to speak to several Singaporeans who had passed the funds to me. They had wanted to thank me for standing up on behalf of Singaporeans to voice out. Please know that the support you give means a lot and I will continue to stay strong and stay on course with everyone.”
“As I had shared on my Facebook, I will update on the funds raised to be transparent and accountable,” he added.
It is understood that the amount collected is meant to cover his legal fees only, as the damages to PM Lee has not yet been ascertained until the case is heard in court.
