SINGAPORE — A courageous member of the public chased down a suspect who was allegedly involved in voyeurism on foot in Balestier on Sunday (11 June), and later handed him over to the police.
A TikTok video posted by user @kamehao depicted a chase scene. The video started with a description that mentioned that the user had been pursuing a male suspect 2-3 minutes, who was accused of taking upskirt media.
The video shows the alleged perpetrator running away from someone pursuing him.
It then transitions to the perspective of the person giving chase. Amidst heavy breathing, the TikToker explains that he is pursuing a man suspected of taking upskirt videos but is losing stamina.
Eventually, the two individuals reach an underground car park, where the TikToker successfully catches up to and apprehended the suspect.
On-screen captions indicate that a Grab delivery rider helped to notify the police.
In the video, the TikToker, communicating in Chinese, repeatedly asks the accused about the content he was filming on his phone.
While waiting for the police to arrive, the TikToker forced the accused to sit by the sidewalk and attempts to retrieve the man’s phone.
The suspect adamantly holds onto his phone and tries to free it from the TikToker’s grip.
“Why do you want to film them?” the TikToker questions the suspect, while the man appears stressed and ashamed, acknowledging that what he did was “wrong.”
The TikToker further inquires about how many victims the suspect filmed, to which the latter replies, “There are still a few inside (my phone)…”
Although the suspect acknowledges the wrongfulness of his actions, he later remarks, “You know, I’m a man…” The TikToker refutes this by saying, “Don’t you have access to the internet? Why do you want to film women (upskirt)?”
The video ended with narrating that police arrived at the scene, without elaborating on what happened to the man who was caught.
