SINGAPORE — Simply too hungry? Staff of a coffee store helped themselves with food mistakenly sent by a food delivery rider instead of returning the wrongly delivered food.
When confronted by the delivery rider, the store staff allegedly refused to pay back the amount of the food, leaving to the rider to bear the cost.
Food delivery rider Duong Hoan shared his terrible experience in Facebook Group Complaint Singapore, when he was supposed to deliver a food order to a unit at Funan.
But he wrongly sent the food to another unit at another level instead, which is occupied by Nanyang coffee concept store Butter Bean.
Only after the customer contacted Duong Hoan saying they have not received the food that he realised he made a mistake.
Duong Hoan then rushed back to Butter Bean, hoping to rectify his blunder and retrieve the food.
But it was already 20 minutes after he made the delivery.
He alleged that a Butter Bean employee told him several staff had already eaten the food.
“[I tried] to explain to her that I’m [only] a food delivery guy, please return the food box or pay me for the food.”
However, the Butter Bean employees allegedly “refused to do so,”
Duong Hoan added that the food order bill was S$28.
“I’m totally disappointed with these people. I now need to compensate $28 to the shop. My day is spoiled.”
Netizen urged people to being considerate to delivery rider
Doung Huan’s post on Complaint Singapore has since hidden from public view, but many netizens had expressed their sympathy to the rider in AsiaOne news article’s Facebook post, some chastised the behavior of those employees who eaten the food.
Netizen Leong Chee Kong noted that delivery drivers may need to work for whole day and might not earn much.
When replied to other netizen, he added that regardless whether or not they are hungry, or they are unaware that the driver made a mistake, it is common sense and being considerate, to leave the food as it is first.
“More importantly, no ethical individual should do anything, to hurt the innocent delivery driver. ”
Another netizen Magedalence also shared her experience of having her neighbour happily tucked into the food she ordered, with even the rider insisting that he delivered correctly.
“Luckily Grab returned my money and I just reordered. ” and questioned why some people would eat food that they did not order.
Some netizen had commented on Butter Bean official page, hoping to notify the company management to address the issue.
While others ridiculed that the shop should give some of their employees better pay as they probably do not earn enough to buy food:
