Imagine scrolling on Tinder, and out of the blue you came across a guy named Ben whose pictures make you wonder if a prominent politician in Singapore has secretly dipped his toes into the online dating world.

As it turns out, someone has created a fake Tinder account featuring Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin under the pseudonym of Ben.

Just like Mr Speaker himself, Ben has a keen interest in outdoor activities – namely yoga, hiking, swimming, and running. Ben also likes cooking, as seen in his profile.

Following this, Mr Tan took to his Facebook on Thursday (21 Jan) to thank a particular person – whose name was not mentioned – for “flagging” and “reporting” the fake Tinder account of him.

He even jokingly expressed his curiosity on how many swipes Ben had received in the dating app, given that the profile pictures uploaded were all actual pictures of himself.

“Tks to xxx for flagging this up and reporting it…wonder how many right swipes Ben received 🤔🤣 (not that I know anything abt Tinder from experience…😬)”

While it is all fun and games seeing Mr Tan – or perhaps any other political figure – popping up on dating apps, it is noteworthy that online dating platforms are in fact a perfect tool for scammers.

Here’s an article regarding Tinder scams for your kind perusal.
