Court prison bus collided with a motorcycle outside the State Court building on 24 Sep 2020 (Source: TOC reader submission)

An accident took place outside the entrance of the state court building on 24 September involving a prisoner bus and a motorcycle.

A member of the public, who was an eye witness at the scene, wrote to TOC saying that the accident was caused by the court prison bus that went against road direction upon entry, seemingly for convenience sake.

As a result, it collided with a motorcycle that was travelling in the right direction when exiting the premise. The motorcyclist was hurt from the collision.

The severity of the injury is not known. However, in a series of pictures submitted to TOC, an ambulance along with several medical personnel can be spotted at the scene.

What’s more, it appears that nothing has been done to address the issue of the court prison bus’ heedless navigation in going against road direction when entering the state court building.

In a video submitted to TOC on 28 September – four days after the accident – the court prison bus can be seen using the same route as entry, which is visibly opposite of the designated traffic marker.

Fair to say this is a common practice by the involved parties.

It is noteworthy that TOC had reached out to the prison service as well as the state court for a comment on the incident and alleged bus routine, but we received no reply till date.

Ultimately, there is only one way in and one way out at the entrance of the state court building, as seen in the pictures below.

Hence, it makes no sense for the court prison bus to be entering the building that way when the path is clearly designated as an exit-way. After all, the proper path to enter is just a stone’s throw away.

Besides contradicting the universally known law of traffic, such a commonly practised act of recklessness had resulted in a collision with an innocent motorcyclist.

Will we see another unwarranted incident like that take place? We hope not.

Will the prison service and state court address this issue, and take firm action to rectify it? We hope so.
