People’s Voice (PV) candidate Sivakumaran Chellappa will be contesting a single seat against People’s Action Party’s (PAP) incumbent Lim Biow Chuan at Mountbatten SMC.

Mr Lim had been holding the seat for two terms since 2011, and both of them are to battle to win over a total of 24,267 electors this year.

Both candidates had submitted their nomination papers yesterday (30 June) at Kong Hwa School.

57-year-old Mr Chellappa expressed that it is time to “institute some changes” to allow people’s interests to be represented in Parliament.

“Parliamentary democracy means people get to represent their interests through the Members of Parliament to the government. For too long, we’ve seen things happening the other way around. Let’s institute some changes.”

Mr Lim who is defending his seat at Mountbatten SMC mentioned that the upcoming General Elections (GE) is “not just about” electing a Member of Parliament (MP) to represent the people, but it is also about “preparing for the future”.

He brought up how the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in “a lot of uncertainties” and urged people to vote for his party to “look after” the people’s future.

“This coming election is not just about electing an MP. It’s also about preparing for the future. COVID-19 has brought a lot of uncertainties in the lives of many of us. Let’s vote for someone who can prepare and look after your future.”
