It is crucial that everyone takes an interest in politics as politics affects everyone and encompasses every aspect of our lives, said Singapore People’s Party (SPP) member Khan Osman Sulaiman on Facebook earlier today (30 June) after the nomination process.

“We need to put the ‘heart’ back into running of our country,” Mr Osman wrote.

He noted that nowadays it is almost impossible to be “apathetic or complacent about politics”.

“With the PAP having more than 2/3 majority in parliament, we have seen policies passed into law without proper debate and consideration,” Mr Osman remarked.

Speaking in a video testimony, the SPP member also shared his experience being involved in fundraising activities for Tabung Amal Aidilfitri, which had brought him the greatest fulfillment.

“My experiences make me realise importance of politics and how policy affect the society,” said Mr Osman, adding that SPP is the party that works toward a better society.

He ended his video saying, “I hope through SPP we can effect positive change for the nation. Join me and together we can achieve prosperity.”

Mr Osman also confirmed that his nomination as a candidate in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC has been accepted.

In a separate Facebook post, he wrote, “Thank you residents of BTP (Bishan-Toa Payoh) for nominating us to represent you in this general election. We will work hard towards getting your voice in parliament. We are with you!”

Mr Osman and the other SPP’s candidates – secretary-general Steve Chia, vice-chairman Williiamson Lee, and member Melvyn Chiu will be contesting at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC for the upcoming General Election.

His team will be contesting against the People Action Party (PAP) team led by former MPs for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Ng Eng Hen, Chee Hong Tat, Saktiandi Supaat, and Chong Kee Hiong.
