In a statement on Friday (19 June), Red Dot United (RDU), Singapore’s newest political party, presented its mission statement and logo as it revealed its intention to contest Jurong GRC.
The Party introduced its mission statement: “Politics with Principles, Vision with Values”.
RDU expressed its belief that “politics must be founded on principles that are unchanging” – no matter what the future holds – for the benefit of a country and its people,
“Principles and values that we hold dear include fairness, accountability, integrity, transparency, happiness, hope and heart (compassion and empathy),” said the Party, adding that it will hold each its members and policies “true to these values and principles”.
RDU went on to unveil its logo, which features a red and white compass.
“Just as a compass does, RDU will strive to consistently point towards the principles and values which must be present in the decision-making process of the government and country,” the Party remarked.
Besides that, RDU also shared that it is prepared to contest Jurong GRC in the upcoming General Election (GE) with a team of five members.
However, the Party asserted that it will not “contest any constituency should there be a 3-corner fight” as a gesture of respect towards the other opposition parties.
RDU stated that it has reached out to the other opposition parties, adding that none of them have indicated that they will be contesting Jurong GRC.
“If this constituency remains unchallenged, RDU will represent the opposition to the best of our ability,” it added.
On Monday (15 June), the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) Registry of Societies approved the application of Red Dot United, formed by former Progress Singapore Party (PSP) members.
The Party submitted its application on 26 May and received an approval just after three weeks, allowing it to contest in the next GE – which will happen in the near future.
Generally, it takes an average of two months for the registry to process the application. In fact, PSP submitted its application on 16 January 2019 and only got approved after three months, on 28 March 2019.
RDU has 12 members so far, with former PSP members Ravi Philemon and Michelle Lee at the helm.
Mr Philemon left PSP last month, whereas Ms Lee, who was PSP’s vice-chairman, resigned earlier in March.
