Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has announced that Member of Parliament (Marine Parade GRC) Tin Pei Ling will be contesting in MacPherson SMC in the coming General Election.

Mr Goh said this on his Facebook page, after having earlier visited Ms Tin at the hospital.

“Lest she is anxious, I passed the message from the Party that she will be fielded in MacPherson in coming GE. I advised her to rest and not worry about the date of the GE. She will not be there at the ND Parade but there will be time for her to turn up at Nomination, and campaign thereafter.”

Ms Tin, 31, announced this morning through her Facebook that she had given birth to a healthy baby boy, her first-born.

She is married to Mr Ng How Yue, who is the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Law.

Ms Tin said in an earlier interview with media that she would like to continue serving her constituents and that her team is “quite excited” about MacPherson becoming an SMC. The ward will be carved out from the Marine Parade GRC as part of changes to the electoral boundaries.

Both the Workers’ Party and National Solidarity Party have expressed interest in contesting the seat in the upcoming general election.
