“On the first day of Chinese New Year, at six o’clock in the morning, the Prime Minister of Singapore goes to a waste collection point, greets 170 workers who are waste collectors, shakes hands with them, greets them Chinese New Year – “Hello” – gives them ang pows, distributes oranges. And he does that not only this year, he has done it every single year for the last x number of years since he became Prime Minister. In Singapore our leaders take the example. You see them going down to grassroots organisations, you see them in grassroots events. They are dressed simply like any other person in HDB estate.

Isn’t the signal clear enough? Isn’t the signal clear enough that everyone in Singapore matters?”
