On 1 and 2 October 2010, our columnist, Leong Sze Hian, represented The Online Citizen at the Asia Chinese Media Conference held in Kuala Lumpur. Sze Hian gave two presentations on Press Freedom and the Development of Alternative New Media in Singapore, and also participated in a panel discussion on co-operation between new alternative media in Asia.
At the end of the conference, the audience was asked to vote on the presentations given by the 6 speakers. Besides Sze Hian, who scored 4.08 out of 5, they included:
Strategic Account Director
Global CIB ACE Lean Six Sigma Leader | Corporate and Investment BankingTransformation
Agha Saeed Khan
SEVP and Group Head – Operations
MCB Bank Limited
Dr. Michael C. S. Wong
Regional Director – Hong Kong
“[It] came as a pleasant surprise,” Sze Hian says, “as it was my debut speaking engagement in Chinese at a conference.”
There were about 100 delegates and twenty-plus speakers, from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.
The top social media blogs represented their respective countries in Asia at the conference.
We thank Sze Hian for his hard work and congratulate him on a job well done!
Sze Hian is also on local (Singapore) radio. Catch him every Tuesday morning at 9am on 100.3FM where he speaks on bread-and-butter issues.
Earlier this year, Sze Hian also became a columnist for Malaysian independent news portal, Malaysiakini.
