VIENTIANE – Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte had their first meeting on Tuesday (6 September) morning.
The two leaders met before the Asean Summits in Vientiane.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, in the half-hour meeting, PM Lee congratulated President Duterte on his election and invited the Philippines President to visit Singapore.
“Both leaders looked forward to the celebrations of the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations in 2019; they discussed domestic and regional developments.”
PM Lee also met with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Tuesday evening.
PMO said, during the meeting, Mr Turnbull welcomed PM Lee’s visit to Australia in October, and looked forward to PM Lee’s speech to the joint sitting of the Federal Parliament.
Both leaders reaffirmed the ‘excellent relationship between the two countries’ and welcomed stronger bilateral relations arising from the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
