Circumstances around the sudden disappearance of an elderly woman living at The Shore Residences were brought to light when police found her remains in her unit — nearly two years after she was last seen.

The Straits Times reported a resident as saying that Lily Loh, who was in her 80s, lived by herself and only had a pet dog.

The resident noted that Madam Loh appeared to have neither family members nor visitors.

They also told ST that Madam Loh was last seen after she came back from a trip abroad in January last year.

In February, however, the resident said that there was a “weird smell” in the common corridor which went away weeks later.

The condo management was notified of Madam Loh’s sudden absence after her mail started piling up in front of her door. The mail included court documents reportedly between her and the condo management.

Despite that, nothing appeared to have been done, according to the resident.

Management of The Shore Residences told ST that it had “immediately alerted the police” after having “some concerns” regarding one of the condo’s residents earlier this week. However, it did not comment on why it did not take action earlier when queried by ST.

Police were alerted to Madam Loh’s missing status after Mountbatten Member of Parliament (MP) Lim Biow Chuan was informed of her disappearance.

The MP told ST that he had notified the police regarding the matter in late October.

While police went to the door of the unit earlier this month, they only entered the flat on Monday (23 November), ST noted.

In a statement yesterday, police said that its preliminary investigations have ruled out “foul play”.

The investigations into Madam Loh’s case are ongoing.
