The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) has announced that it will be fielding candidates in the western side of Singapore for the upcoming general election. This was announced by Dr Tan Cheng Bock, secretary general of PSP, during a press conference on Tuesday (23 June) during which he introduced the party’s second slate of candidates.

Dr Tan said, “We select areas we want to contest based on whether we can win or not,” adding that the party will concentrate its efforts on the Western side of Singapore which Dr Tan himself is more familiar with both as a medical professional and in previous elections.

The constituencies that the party secretary general has confirmed that PSP will contest are the West Coast, Chua Chu Kang and Tanjong Pagar GRCs as well as the Hong Kah North, Marymount, Pioneer, Yio Chu Kang, Kebun Baru SMCs.

Dr Tan stressed, however, that these are liable to change and that the final decision will be announced on nomination day.

An earlier report by the Straits Times quoted Mr Leong Mun Wai, PSP’s assistant secretary-general, saying that the party has identified 44 candidates, with another 13 in reserve, and is seeking to contest in at least 15 constituencies including all the ones mentioned above.
