KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 3 — Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been arrested today.

Officials from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have confirmed the arrest was made at Najib’s house on Jalan Langgak Duta in the capital city today at 2.35pm.

He is expected to be brought to the MACC headquarters here.

It is understood that Najib will most likely be charged tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. in the High Court of Kuala Lumpur for offences related to money-laundering.

Najib has been under investigation over allegations linked to the 1MDB scandal since the Malaysian General Election took place on May 9.

In police raids at several properties linked to Najib’s family, mounds of cash, as well as luxury goods and jewellery were discovered, the sum of which was estimated to have totalled up to RM1 billion.

Najib has since maintained that the seized goods were gifts given to his family during his tenure as Prime Minister.
