Mr Chua Thian Poh, head of developer Ho Bee Investment, has been named the recipient of this year’s top National Day Award – the Distinguished Service Order.
The award is for any act or series of acts constituting distinguished conduct within Singapore.
Ho Bee Investment is involved in various other businesses, besides property investment and development, to include printing, trading, automobile and petroleum.
Ho Bee’s key property developments include the world’s famous prestigious developments in Sentosa Island as well as its recent mega commercial project in One-North. Beyond Singapore, Ho Bee has also expanded its development projects in Australia, China and United Kingdom. (Source)
Mr Chua also serves on the boards of several other companies and community organizations.

–          He is the President of Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations.
–          Board Chairman of Business China
–          Honorary President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry
–          Chairman of Ren Ci Hospital
–          President of Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan
–          Mr Chua is also the Chairman of Board of Trustee of Chinese Development Assistance Council.
Mr Chua is also active in the grassroots, serving as Chairman of Bishan East Citizens’ Consultative Committee.
Mr Chua established a S$6M Ho Bee Professorship in Chinese Economy and Business with Singapore Management University in 2008. In 2009, he set up the S$10M Chua Thian Poh Entrepreneurship Fund with Nanyang Technological University and the S$12.5M Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Programme with National University of Singapore.
Mr Chua was conferred the Public Service Star (BBM) in 2004 and appointed Justice of the Peace in 2005. He was conferred the 2006 Businessman of the Year. In November 2012, Mr Chua was conferred The President’s Award for Philanthropy (Individual).
In 2014, he was named to the Forbes’ list of billionaire for the first time, with a fortune of US$1.3 billion.
On Tuesday, he was revealed as an adviser to the newly formed non-profit organisation, Honour.Sg, which is led by former Head of the Civil Service, Lim Siong Guan. (Read here: “Composition of Honour Singapore raises questions about its values”)
