Najib leaves to Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide who will be Malaysia’s next Prime Minister

At the press conference held at 11am, Barisan Nasional leader, Najib Rasek accused the Opposition of creating lies and defamation.

Mr Najib did not concede defeat in his speech and mentioned that since no single party wins with a simple majority, he will leave it to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide who will be the next Prime Minister.

He said, “BN will respect whoever is the Agong’s choice, and I hope that all Malaysians will place their trust in the wisdom of the Agong to make the best choice,”

The swearing in ceremony of Dr Mahathir as Prime Minister which was supposed to take place this morning, was cancelled.

Malaysiakini reports. “Palace sources had reportedly informed the media that the ceremony would be held on another day.”

Pakatan Harapan, the party coalition which Dr Mahathir heads, is not registered with Malaysia’s Registrar of Societies as the ROS refuse to proceed with the registration citing irregularities with one of its parties, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

However, Dr Mahathir has explained in this morning’s press conference that the parties have contested using the People’s Justice Party (PKR) which is a legal political party.
