COE premium for small cars tops S$100,000 for first time since October 2024

COE premiums for small cars in Singapore crossed S$100,000 in May 2025, the highest since October 2024, while prices for larger cars and Open category COEs also rose. Commercial and motorcycle COEs fell slightly amid an announced increase in quota from May to July.

SINGAPORE: On 7 May 2025, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums for Category A vehicles rose to S$103,009 (US$79,802), up from S$99,500 during the previous bidding exercise.

This marks the first time since October 2024 that Category A premiums have crossed the S$100,000 threshold.

Premiums for Category B cars, typically larger and more powerful vehicles, climbed to S$119,890 from S$117,003.

Open category COEs rose slightly to S$118,889 from S$118,001 — their highest level since January 2025.

In contrast, motorcycle COEs dropped to S$8,709, down from S$9,309 in the prior exercise.

COEs for commercial vehicles, including goods vehicles and buses, also saw a decline, falling to S$62,590 from S$65,001.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently announced an increase in the COE quota for the May to July period.

The total quota will rise by over 6 per cent to 18,232, up from 17,133 in the previous quarter.

This follows an earlier 8 per cent rise, bringing the year-on-year increase to 21 per cent for the same period.

A total of 4,896 bids were submitted in this latest exercise, with only 3,094 COEs available.
