GE2025: Poh Li San faces off against Chee Soon Juan in Sembawang West SMC
Poh Li San will battle SDP’s Chee Soon Juan for Sembawang West Single Member Constituency in the 3 May General Election. Poh, who represented the area in Sembawang GRC, highlighted her past work, while Chee shared his vision: "We want Singaporeans to live in hope, not fear, to get ahead, not just get by, to thrive, not just survive."

SINGAPORE: The upcoming General Election on 3 May will see People's Action Party (PAP) candidate Poh Li San face off against Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) chief Chee Soon Juan for the newly established Sembawang West Single Member Constituency (SMC).
The candidates’ nominations were confirmed on Wednesday (23 April).
Poh, who was part of the PAP team that secured 67.29 per cent of the vote in Sembawang GRC during the 2020 election, represents the Sembawang West division.
This area was carved out as an SMC following a review of the electoral boundaries earlier this year.
In her speech to voters, Poh highlighted the efforts made over the past five years, stating, "We have done a lot of good work in the last five years, and let's do more for Sembawang West for our chapter two."
Chee’s Vision for Change
Dr Chee, who contested in the 2020 General Election in Bukit Batok SMC but lost to the PAP's Murali Pillai with 45.2 per cent of the vote, is now turning his attention to Sembawang West.
In his speech, Chee shared his vision, saying, "We want Singaporeans to live in hope, not fear, to get ahead, not just get by, to thrive, not just survive."
The National Solidarity Party (NSP) had previously announced that it would step aside and not contest Sembawang West SMC, leaving the race between Poh and Chee.
According to the latest Electoral Boundaries Review Committee report, the newly established constituency will have 24,153 voters.
As both candidates gear up for the election, the battle for Sembawang West promises to be a closely watched contest.
