PAP’s Masagos Zulkifli wrongly refers to Lee Hsien Yang as Singapore’s PM during Tampines GRC e-rally

People’s Action Party (PAP) Masagos Zulkifli made a verbal gaffe on Friday (3 July) night during a GE2020 e-rally when he mistakenly named Lee Hsien Yang as the country’s Prime Minister instead of Lee Hsien Loong. The former is the younger, estranged brother of the later, both sons to late founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The blunder happened during a PAP e-rally for the Tampines GRC, which Mr Masagos is contesting alongside fellow PAP members Koh Poh Koon, Desmond Choo, Baey Yam Keng and Cheng Li Hui.

Mr Masagos, who is also PAP’s vice chairman, was making reference to the Prime Minister’s 2019 National Day Rally speech when he said, “Mr Lee Hsien Yang, our Prime Minister”.

The 43-minute long video of the rally was taken down just hours after it was uploaded onto the PAP’s official Facebook page. However, clips of the Mr Masagos’ slip are still circulating social media, such as this one post on the Wake Up, Singapore Facebook page.

The PAP is contesting Tampines GRC against the National Solidarity Party (NSP) made up of Reno Fong, Mohd Ridzwan Bin Mohammad, Eugene Yeo, Choong Hon Heng and Vincent Ng Kian Guan.
