The Workers’ Party (WP) has announced the launch of a new podcast, This Side of the House, hosted by its recently appointed Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs), Andre Low Wu Yang and Eileen Chong Pei Shan.

The announcement, made on 12 August 2025, comes shortly after Low and Chong’s NCMP appointments following the General Election on 3 May 2025.

According to the WP media team, the podcast will focus on “candid conversations and ground-up perspectives” to make politics and policy more accessible to Singaporeans.

Louis Chua, head of WP’s media team, said the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to “listen, share, and build genuine connections” with citizens.

He noted that video podcasts are increasingly a preferred medium for staying informed and that WP intends to use them to “draw the curtains back” on political work ahead of Parliament’s opening in September.

The pilot episode, released on 11 August 2025, features Low, Chong, and fellow first-time WP candidates Alia Mattar and Sufyan Mikhail Putra discussing their experiences from GE2025.

Teasers have been shared on WP’s Instagram and TikTok accounts, while full episodes are available on thissideofthehouse.sg, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

NCMP background and election results

Low, 34, contested in Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency (SMC) against Ng Chee Meng and garnered 48.53 per cent of votes — the highest share among unelected opposition candidates.

Chong, 33, was part of the WP’s five-member team in Tampines Group Representation Constituency (GRC), which achieved 47.37 per cent in a four-way contest won by the People’s Action Party. This was the second-highest share among unelected opposition candidates.

The NCMP scheme ensures at least 12 opposition MPs in Parliament, granting the highest-performing losing opposition candidates full voting rights if elected opposition MPs number fewer than 12.

In GE2025, the WP secured 10 elected seats — in Aljunied GRC, Sengkang GRC, and Hougang SMC — leaving two NCMP positions available, which were offered to Low and Chong.

Following their appointments on 19 May 2025, the WP reaffirmed its mission to represent Singaporeans, hold the Government accountable, and promote principled parliamentary debate.

The party welcomed Low and Chong’s contributions, stating that their perspectives on social equity, workers’ rights, community welfare, and family support would strengthen WP’s parliamentary presence.
