According to last night’s press release, 529 cases are currently warded in hospital. Most are well and under observation.
There are currently 38 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and four in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). Five amongst these 42 cases are fully vaccinated. Of these, four require oxygen supplementation while one requires ICU care as they have underlying medical conditions.
33 seniors above 60 years, of whom 29 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill, said MOH
It was also announced that Case 65943, an 80 year-old female Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 7 August 2021.
She had developed symptoms on 21 July, and was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 23 July after testing positive for COVID-19 infection. She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of diabetes, hypertension and atrial fibrillation. In total, 42 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
“As of 6 August 2021, 68% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, and 79% has received at least one dose.” said MOH.
“In total, we have administered a total of 7,971,889 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, covering 4,351,541 individuals, with 3,744,802 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.”
“In addition, 129,787 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been administered as of 6 August 2021, covering 81,555 individuals.”
MOH to stop providing details of COVID-19 community cases
As Singapore moves towards a new phase of battling the pandemic, the MOH said in a statement on 29 June that it will no longer disclose details of each new COVID-19 case detected in the community.
“Besides daily numbers, we will include information on the key trends of the local situation, clusters we are monitoring, progress of vaccination and the number of people who suffered a severe form of the disease,” said the Ministry.
According to the MOH, this decision was made by the COVID-19 multi-ministry task force, with a “strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading, vaccinating our population and starting the process to transit to a new normal”.
