136 new cases of COVID-19 infection in S’pore; 130 locally transmitted cases, 48 unlinked

As of Wednesday noon (28 July), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed an additional 136 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.This brings the total number of infection cases to 64,589.There are 130 new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection, of which 27 are linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster and two belong to the KTV cluster.Of the 130 cases today, 61 are linked to previous cases and have already been placed on quarantine. 21 are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance.48 are currently unlinked.Amongst the cases are 3 seniors above 70 years who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness, said MOH.There are six imported cases who were placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. Two were detected upon arrival, while four developed the illness during the SHN or isolation period.The Ministry will share further updates in its press release tonight.

Condition of confirmed cases & progress of national vaccination programme

According to last night's press release, 545 cases are currently warded in hospital. Most are well and under observation.There are currently 21 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and two in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). One amongst these 23 cases is fully vaccinated, but requires oxygen supplementation as she has underlying medical conditions.13 seniors above 60 years, of whom 12 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill."As of 26 July 2021, we have administered a total of 7,256,331 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme," said MOH."The total number of doses administered was 7,256,331, covering 4,254,789 individuals. 3,122,180 individuals have completed the full vaccination regimen, consisting of 120,638 recovered persons who received at least one dose and 3,001,542 who received their second dose.""In addition, 89,047 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been administered as of 26 July 2021, covering 69,769 individuals."

MOH to stop providing details of COVID-19 community cases

As Singapore moves towards a new phase of battling the pandemic, the MOH said in a statement on 29 June that it will no longer disclose details of each new COVID-19 case detected in the community."Besides daily numbers, we will include information on the key trends of the local situation, clusters we are monitoring, progress of vaccination and the number of people who suffered a severe form of the disease," said the Ministry.According to the MOH, this decision was made by the COVID-19 multi-ministry task force, with a "strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading, vaccinating our population and starting the process to transit to a new normal".
