Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Member of Parliament (MP)-elect Pritam Singh today announced that he will commence his Meet-the-People sessions (MPS) for the new Parliament term next Monday (24 August).

The Workers’ Party (WP) chief in a Facebook post said that the session will be held at Blk 672 near the junction of Jalan Damai and Bedok Reservoir Road.

Future MPS scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month will also be conducted at the same location.

For MPS on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, Mr Singh’s MPS will be held at Blk 615, Bedok Reservoir Road.

His MPS will take place in the evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. No MPS will be held on the 5th Monday of the month and on public holidays.

Mr Singh said that he is “glad to be able to get back in touch with the Eunos community” after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions by the National Environment Agency on physical MPS.

“As expected, there were more residents in view of the hiatus, and I thank everyone who waited patiently while my team and I processed each case. See you next Monday at Blk 672, although I will arrive late because of the opening of Parliament on the same evening,” said Mr Singh.

Many netizens lauded Mr Singh’s tenacity and diligence in meeting residents face-to-face despite the lack of a proper office or set of facilities provided to him for his physical MPS.

They also criticised the apparent double standards in the funding provided to elected MPs from alternative parties in comparison to that of the losing team from the ruling party, stating that the disparity makes “a mockery out of democracy”, particularly given Mr Singh’s new formal position as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

One commenter proposed a fundraiser to raise money for the purpose of providing Mr Singh with an air-conditioned office for him and his constituents to have MPS in a comfortable and private environment.
