“Throughout the course of the campaign, you can expect that we will have diverse opinions and we will also disagree with each other, but through it all, let’s keep the discourse civil,” said Jose Raymond, Singapore People’s Party (SPP) candidate for Potong Pasir SMC.

Posting a video on his Facebook page yesterday (24 June), Mr Raymond, who is also the Party’s chairman, urged members of the pubic to “never forget” that they are all Singaporeans who fight under one flag – Singapore national flag.

In the video, he revealed that he has set the ball rolling for the coming General Election (GE) by transferring the election deposit of S$13,500 to the Elections Department (ELD).

“This will be a historic occasion for me and I’m hoping that it will be one for all of us too, as we decide on the kind of future we want for Singapore, our home,” Mr Raymond expressed.

Noting that “countless number of people” have reached out him over the past few days, he promised that he will “try to answer as many as he possibly can” so that the people can know more about him, as well as his ideas and works that have been done in Potong Pasir.

Mr Raymond also expressed his appreciation to those who have signed up as volunteers and also to those who have donated to the Party’s cause.

“We are truly thankful. It is for people like you whom we keep fighting for,” he noted.

Mr Raymond went on to promise that his political campaign would be “one of the most interesting campaigns”, adding that the dynamics of this year’s GE is different from the previous elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in which “the battle for the hearts and minds will be fought online”.

“But we will do our part to fight for every single vote and ensure that we get as much support as possible from all corners of Potong Pasir SMC, from the town itself to Bidadari, to Sennett Estate to Joo Seng, that will all be on battleground.

“We will fight fair and we will fight smart, but most of all we must fight with all our hearts,” he remarked.

In the end of his video, Mr Raymond said that he is looking forward to meet the people “on the ground again very soon”.

The SPP had earlier announced the five candidates who will be participate in the upcoming GE.

Mr Raymond will be contesting at Potong Pasir SMC, while the other four candidates – Vice-Chairman Williiamson Lee, Secretary-General Steve Chia, as well as member Khan Osman Sulaiman and Melvyn Chiu – will be contesting at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.
