The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed that a patient has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 4 April 2020 at 5.41am.
The patient was an 88 year-old male Singapore Permanent Resident who had no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He was confirmed as case 855 who is linked to the Singapore Cricket Club cluster.
He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on 29 March, and admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on 30 March. He had been cared for in the intensive care unit since 30 March.
According to MOH, he developed serious complications and eventually succumbed to the infection. He had a history of heart and kidney disease, cancer and diabetes.
This is the sixth death that has occurred in Singapore as a result of COVID-19 infection. Just yesterday, MOH reported the death of the fifth person to die of COVID-19 in Singapore, who was an 86-year-old woman with no recent travel history to affected countries as regions.
As of yesterday noon, there are a total of 1,114 cases of confirmed COVID-19 infection in Singapore. Taking into account of case 855, there are 24 still in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
