A 35-year-old male Malaysian driver was caught smuggling 6,800 sachets of chewing tobacco hidden in modified compartments of a van.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (20 June), Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) wrote that a vigilant ICA officer noticed a man appearing nervous and avoiding eye contact with our officers when he arrived at Woodlands checkpoint on 19 June.

Sensing something amiss, the officers conducted further checks and found the chewing tobacco.

The authorities noted that some chewing tobacco were concealed under the front passenger floor mat, some in modified rear boot compartment, while some were found between the front and rear, left and right door panels.
